The Gauteng Government had recently partnered with the Department of Labour via the ESSA Portal to launch a new training and skills development programme.
So we are creating this simple guide to show you how to register online, to be considered for government jobs in South Africa.

Before you register a profile and start completing the online forms, we wanted to highlight for you the important services you’ll get as an individual looking for work in government.
With the ESSA jobs portal, you can register as a work seeker, search for jobs, and apply online for many of the opportunities registered by government employers.
Once successfully registered, a CV will automatically be compiled which you can download.
However, when submitting job applications online, your CV will be sent to one of more than 186 Departmental employment practitioners across the country, who will consider your application based on the skills and qualifications you have.
The goal of the essa.labour.gov.za system is to close the job-hunting gap and give individuals access to available government jobs, across all the the departments.
Not only will you get access to jobs, but you’ll also get career counseling and guidance to help you make informed decisions about your employment paths.
Lastly, you’ll get first-hand information on training and skills development programmes from all the departments in government.
Step-by-Step Registration and Login on ESSA.Labour.Gov.Za
Visit the ESSA Portal at essa.labour.gov.za.
Select the individual registration option, and accept the terms to use the platform to proceed to the next step.
Enter your Surname, 13-digit Identity Number, email address, and confirm you’re not a robot by completing the Google ReCaptcha to register your profile details.
After your registration is successfully processed, you’ll receive an email containing your username and password.
You’ll use your username and password credentials to log in to the ESSA portal to browse and search for job openings.
Search for Jobs And Apply Online
After successfully logging in, please complete all the required personal details, contact details, education, training, and employment history – essentially completing the Z83 application form.
When that’s done, you can now begin your government job search usin the ESSA job portal by accessing the employment services tab on the dashboard.
You can search and filter jobs by province, skill, job type, placement type, and dates.
Next, review the search results to view details of a single opportunity that might interest you and apply with your online CV.
Once you’ve applied, you must continuously log in to the ESSA system to track and check the status of your job applications.
